Welcome to Common Adversary

And welcome to the journey toward an uncommon life.

If you’re here, you probably have already begun your journey toward being unconventional, questioning the easy path, and wondering why so many around us do and act as they do. And if you haven’t begun your journey – welcome. As you know, or will soon realize, wherever we go in the world, we are softly “pushed” to conform to society’s parameters of what is acceptable. Whether that means being “pushed” to being an employee, an indebted consumer, or overweight and unhealthy, it doesn’t matter. These “nudges” are ubiquitous and the source of much of our angst and dissatisfaction. Following the “pushes” and the “nudges” is the common path, easy to see, easy to follow, and easy to obtain short-term respect from the communities we live and work in.

But what if we want the best rather than the easiest? What if we want long-term respect rather than fleeting reverence? If this is what we desire, we must exit the common path. We must embrace the power available to individuals in the twenty-first century. In our thoughts and actions, we must ask why and embrace being an adversary to all things conventional.

I’m a former conformist and a thirty-something, over-educated and formerly under-satisfied-with-life professional. I’ve traveled extensively on the familiar path, having gone with the “pushes” and “nudges” to find myself a corporate slave, indebted with a negative six-figure net worth, and my mental and physical health in shambles. Eventually, my whys piled up, and I knew I had to change my circumstances and my outlook, and I had to change myself. This evolution is possible, and through it, I learned a lot about life, what it means to live, what status is, what status isn’t, what money is, what money isn’t, and what it means to be happy. I still don’t know it all, but what I’ve learned has immensely improved my life and my outlook on life. And I hope what I share here can enhance your life too.

I’m Henry, and I’m glad you’re here.
